Bournemouth: Guide
Bournemouth on merenrantakaupunki Englanti|Englannin etelärannikolla. Se sijaitsee noin 170 kilometriä Lontoo|Lontoosta lounaaseen. Historiallisesti se on kuulunut Hampshireen, mutta vuonna 1997 se julistettiin itsenäiseksi hallintoyksiköksi, unitary authorityksi.
Bournemouth on suosittu turismi|turistikohde sen miltei kahdeksan kilometriä pitkän ja hienon hiekkarannan, "Jurassic Coastin" vuoksi, ja aluetta kutsutaankin lempinimellä "Englannin Riviera". Se on julistettu yhdeksi UNESCO:n maailmanperintöluettelon kohteeksi. Kaupungissa on myös vilkas yöelämä ja paljon ravintoloita, pubeja ja klubeja. Bournemouthia kutsuttiin aikaisemmin "Jumalan odotushuoneeksi", koska sitä pidettiin tylsänä ja väestöltään vanhana kaupunkina. Viime vuosikymmeninä se on kuitenkin muuttunut nuorekkaammaksi ja kaupungissa on runsaasti opiskelijoita ja sen houkutteleva viihdetarjonta vetää paikalle suuria joukkoja nuorisoa.
Vuonna 2004 Bournemouthissa oli 163 500 asukasta. Bournemouthin länsipuolella sijaitsee Poole|Poole ja itäpuolella Christchurch (Dorset)|Christchurch. Nämä kolme kaupunkia ovat yhteenrakennettuja ja niiden kokonaisasukasmäärä on 383 713.
Bournemouthiin on haudattu Frankensteinin luonut kirjailija Mary Shelley. Toinen tunnettu kirjailija, J.R.R. Tolkien, asui Bournemouthissa viimeiset vuotensa.
