Pamukkale: Guide
Pamukkale on Lounais-Turkissa sijaitseva luonnonilmiökohde. Pamukkale tarkoittaa suomeksi käännettynä "puuvillalinnaa". Pamukkale muodostuu korkeasta pengermaastosta, joka koostuu vitivalkoisista kalkkikivikerroksista.. Lämmin (35-50 astetta), kalkkipitoinen vesi virtaa hitaasti alas 100 metriä korkeata kiviseinämää, muodostaen valkoisia tasanteita, tippukiviä ja vesialtaita. Pohjaveden vähennyttyä (asutus ja hotellit kuluttavat vettä), ovat portaat muuttuneet ruskeiksi.
Pamukkale sijaitsee aivan Denizlin ulkopuolella.
Pamukkale on Turkki|Turkin suosituimpia retkikohteita. Suuret kävijämäärät ovat tuhonneet aluetta. Valkoiset kalliot ovat likaantuneet ja tummuneet. Nykyisin kalkkikivitasanteilla kävely tai altaissa kylpeminen on kiellettyä.
Uiminen on mahdollista Kleopatra-altaassa, johon mineraalipitoista, +35 asteista vettä johdetaan. Vedellä uskotaan olevan monia ihotauteja ja sydänsairauksia parantavia vaikutuksia. Veden uskotaan myös nuorentavan. Kleopatran allas on hyvin erityislaatuinen. Vesi on kristallinkirkasta ja altaan pohjalla on Kleopatran aikaisia, 2000 vuotta vanhoja pylväitä ja pilareita.
Huipulla sijaitsee antiikin Hierapolis, muinainen pyhiinvaelluspaikka.
Kohde valittiin maailmanperintökohteeksi vuonna 1988. Valintaperusteluna oli kulttuurinen perustelu.
