Ankara on Turkki|Turkin pääkaupunki ja maan toiseksi suurin kaupunki Istanbulin jälkeen. Ankarassa on noin 4 000 000 asukasta (09/2005), ja se sijaitsee Anatolian ylängöllä keskimäärin 850 metriä merenpinnan yläpuolella.
Ankaran historia alkaa varhaiselta kivikaudelta, ja jatkuu läpi Rooman ja osmanien vallan aikojen. Kemal Atatürk, Turkin itsenäisyystaistelun johtaja ja kansallissankari, piti päämajaansa Ankarassa vuodesta 1919. Kun Turkista tuli itsenäinen tasavalta vuonna 1923 Atatürk siirsi maan pääkaupungin Istanbulista Ankaraan suojatakseen sitä ulkomaalaisten valloituksilta. Atatürkin mausoleumi Anıt Kabir on Ankaran tärkeimpiä nähtävyyksiä.
Ankaran muihin nähtävyyksiin kuuluu anatolialaisen kulttuurin museo, joka esittelee alueen historiaa kivikaudelta alkaen, Ulusin kaupunginosassa sijaitseva vanha kaupunki, roomalaiset rauniot, Atakule-näköalatorni sekä Ankaran linna.
Ankara on moderni hallintokaupunki, jossa on paljon valtion virastoja ja ulkomaiden lähetystöjä. Ulkomaalaiselle Ankaraan poikkeaminen tarjoaa mielenkiintoisen vastakohdan Turkin rantakohteiden basaaritunnelmiin: Ankarassa tyypillinen ulkomaalainen ei ole turisti vaan työmatkalla oleva virkamies.
