Luzern: Guide
Luzern on Luzern (kantoni)|samannimisen kantonin pääkaupunki Sveitsissä. Asukkaita on 58000. Kaupunki on suosittu matkailukaupunki ja liikenneristeys sekä suosittu kongressikeskus. Kaupungissa on merkittävää metalliteollisuutta. Luzernissa on Eurooppa|Euroopan vanhin puusilta Kapellbrücke (1333).
Maantiede
Luzern on kaupunki Keski-Sveitsissä lähellä Lucerne-järveä ja Pilatus-vuorta. Kaupunki on 426 metrin korkeudella ja sen alueen pinta-ala on 24.15 neliökilometriä.
Historia
Luzern oli alun perin antiikkinen kalastuskylä, joka kasvoi kaupungiksi St Leodegarin kirkon perustamisen avulla. Ensimmäisen kerran Luzernin latinankielinen nimi Luciarnia mainitaan teksteissä läheltä vuotta 800.
1200-luku|1200-luvulla kaupungista tuli tärkeä kauppakeskus tavaran kuljettamiseen Alpit|Alppien yli, kun St. Gotthardin solan kulkuväylä avattiin. Jouduttuaan Habsburgit|Habsburg-suvun valtaan vuonna 1291 se liittyi Sveitsin Confederaatioon. Käänteisuskonpuhdistuksen aikana kaupunki oli katolilaisten linnoitus ja Jesuiittojen tukikohta heidän yrityksissään taistella Calvinistejä vastaan.
Vuonna 1601 maanjäristys ja tsunami tuhosivat suuren osa kaupunkia ja tappoivat paljon ihmisiä. Luzern oli myös vuoden 1653 talonpoikaiskapinan keskusta kaupungin aatelisvaltaa vastaan. Napoleonin sotaretkien aikaan Luzern oli vähän aikaa Helvetian tasavallan pääkaupunki vuosien 1798-1803. Vuotena 1841 Luzern erosi Sveitsin Konfederaatiosta, joka johti Sondenbundin sotaan vuonna 1847 ja Luzernin sallittiin palaavaan takaisin konfederaatioon vuonna 1848.
