Kassel: Guide
Kassel on kaupunki Fuldajoen rannikolla, pohjoisessa Hessenissä, Saksassa. Vuoteen 1926 saakka se tunnettiin virallisesti nimellä Cassel. Kaupungin pinta-ala on 106,77 km² ja asukasluku 194 464 (2005).
Kassel mainittiin ensimmäistä kertaa virallisesti vuonna hugenotille. Toinen maailmansota|Toisen maailmansodan aikana 90 % kaupungin keskustasta tuhoutui. Kasselin pommituksessa vuonna 1943 10 000 ihmistä kuoli ja 150 000 jäi kodittomiksi. Kaupungin keskusta rakennettiin lähes kokonaan uudelleen 1950-luku|1950-luvulla. Rakennukset tehtiin kuitenkin nykyaikaisella tyylillä, eikä useimmista sodan aikana tuhoutuneista rakennuksista tehty entisenlaisia.
Saksan ensimmäinen observatorio (avattu 1558) sijaitsee Kasselissa. Vuodesta 1955 lähtien kaupungissa on järjestetty viiden vuoden välein nykytaiteen näyttely documenta.
