Dortmund: Guide
Dortmund on kaupunki Saksassa, Nordrhein-Westfalenin osavaltiossa, Ruhrin alueella. Ruhrjoki virtaa kaupungin eteläpuolelta ja Datteln–Hammin kanava kaupungin pohjoispuolelta. Dortmund–Emsin kanava päättyy Dortmundin satamaan lähes kaupungin keskustassa. Kaupungissa on 587 288 asukasta (1.1.2004).
Dortmund on mainittu kirjallisissa lähteissä ensimmäisen kerran vuonna 880 nimellä Throtmanni, jolloin se oli pieni kylä. Vuonna 1152 keisari Fredrik Barbarossa rakennutti uudelleen tulipalon tuhoaman kaupungin ja piti siellä hoviaan kaksi vuotta. 1200-luvulla Dortmund liittyi Hansaan ja saavutti vapaakaupungin aseman.

Dortmund tunnetaan Westfalenin vihreänä kaupunkina. Lähes puolet sen alueesta on vettä tai viheralueita kuten Westfalenpark ja Rombergpark. Joulumarkkinat (Weihnachtsmarkt) on myös tunnettu tapahtuma. Dortmundin kuuluisia nähtävyyksiä ovat muun muassa Westfalenstadion ja tv-torni Florianturm.
