Lyon: Guide
Lyon on kaupunki itäisessä Ranskassa. Sen asukasluku on arviolta 468 300 (2004), ja koko kaupunkialueen 1 648 216 asukasta (1999). Lyon on Rhône (departementti)|Rhônen departementin, Rhône-Alpesin Ranskan aluehallinto|hallintoalueen ja nykyään epävirallisen Lyonnaisin provinssin pääkaupunki. Kaupungin keskusta sijaitsee Rhônen ja sen sivujoen Saônen liittymäkohdassa. Lyonissa on kolme yliopistoa.
Historia
Lyon perustettiin Rooman valtakunta|Rooman valtakunnan aikana 43 eaa., jolloin sen nimeksi tuli Lugdunum kelttiläisen auringonjumalan Lughin mukaan. Siitä tuli nopeasti Gallian keskus, koska se sijaitsi Kaakkois-Ranskasta Pohjois-Ranskaan vievän väylän varrella kahden merkittävän joen yhtymäkohdassa. 1400-luvulla Lyonista tuli Ranskan taloudellinen keskus ja se jatkoi kehitystään Pariisin kanssa kilpailevana kaupunkikeskuksena. Lyon on jo vuosisatoja ollut tunnettu gastronomiastaan, kudonnastaan ja silkkikaupastaan. Kaupungin lähistöllä sijaitsee kaksi tunnettua viininkasvatusaluetta, Beaujolais pohjoisessa ja Côtes du Rhône etelässä.
Liikenne
Lyonissa on neljä linjaa käsittävä metroverkosto, joka avattiin vuonna 1978. TGV-luotijuna yhdistää Lyonin Pariisiin ja Lilleen pohjoisessa ja Marseilleen etelässä. Kaupunkia palvelee Saint-Exupéryn kansainvälinen lentokenttä.
