Le Havre: Guide

Le Havre on kaupunki Ranskassa. Le Havre sijaitsee Pohjois-Ranskassa Normandiassa Englannin kanaalin rannalla, Seine-joen suulla. Le Havre liitettiin mukaan UNESCOn maailmanperintökohde listaan heinäkuussa 2005. Kaupungissa on yliopisto, ja vahva urheilu perinne, kaupungin ylpeus on jalkapallojoukkue Le Havre AC.

Historia

Kaupunki perustettiin vuonna 1517. Tuolloin sen nimi oli Franciscopolis, joka tuli Frans I (Ranska)|Frans I:n nimestä. Myöhemmin kaupungin nimeksi tuli Le Havre-de-Grâce. Le Havre tarkoittaa satamaa. Kaupungin oli tarkoitus korvata vanhat Honfleurin ja Harfleurin satamat.

Normandian maihinnousun aikana Le Havre hävitettiin, mutta kaupunki rakennettiin uudelleen modernilla tyylillä Auguste Perretin suunnittelemana.

Nähtävyydet

Le Havre oli voimakkaasti pommitettu Toinen maailmansota|toisen maailman sodan aikana. Useita historiallisesti merkittäviä rakennuksia tuhoutui.
