Trieste: Guide
Trieste on kaupunki Pohjois-Italiassa, Triesten lahden pohjukassa. Siellä on 211 000 asukasta. Koska se sijaitsee entisen Jugoslavian kainalossa, se on ollut aina kulttuurien kohtauspaikka. Aikoinaan se oli Itävalta-Unkarin merkittävin satamakaupunki. Kosovon sota|Kosovon sodan aikoihin kaupunkiin vyöryi tuhansia pakolaisia. Olojen rauhoituttua se on sopimassa satamayhteistyötä useiden naapurimaiden kaupunkien kanssa.
Trieste on kuuluisa arkkitehtuuristaan ja hiekkarannoistaan. Se muistuttaa edelleen enemmän Itävaltaa kuin Italiaa, ja sitä kututaankin Pikku-Wieniksi. Se liitettiin Italiaan vasta 1918, ja oli Toinen maailmansota|Toisen maailmansodan jälkeen muutaman vuoden ajan oma valtionsa (ks. Triesten vapaa-alue).
Triestessä on telakka, johon Wärtsilä siirsi tuotantoaan Turusta vuonna 2005.
