Pozzuoli: Guide
Pozzuoli on 80 000 asukkaan kaupunki Italiassa, lähellä Napolia. Kaupunki on perustettu tuliperäiselle maalle ja se on historiansa aikana kärsinyt tulivuoritoiminnasta ja maanjäristyksistä. Esimerkiksi lokakuussa 1983 kaupungissa vahingoittui liki 8000 rakennusta maanjäristysten takia.
Historiaa
Pozzuolin perustivat roomalainen kolonia ja sen nimeksi vaihtui Puteoli. Ajanlaskumme alussa Puteoli oli Rooman tärkein satamakaupunki, ja pääkaupunkia varten tarkoitetut viljakuljetukset kulkivat sen kautta. Kaupunkiin rakennettiin mm. amfiteatteri, joka oli Italian kolmanneksi suurin Rooman ja Capuan jälkeen. Alarik hävitti kaupungin vuonna 410 ja antiikin aikainen asutus päättyi lopullisesti 500-luku|500-luvulla.
Nähtävyyksiä
1960-luvulla maa liikkui niin että sataman läheltä nousi esille roomalaisaikaisia temppeleitä, jotka olivat olleet pitkään meren pohjassa. Kuitenkin se rakennelma, joka tunnetaan nimellä "Serapiksen temppeli", on itse asiassa macellum eli kauppahalli.
