Parma: Guide

Parma on kaupunki Italiassa, Emilia-Romagnan alueella (Regione), Parman maakunnassa. Kaupungissa on 173 500 asukasta (2001) ja kaupunkialueella 402 000.

Roomalaiset perustivat Parman 183 eaa. Keskiajalla Parma kuului nimellisesti Pyhä saksalais-roomalainen keisarikunta|Pyhään saksalais-roomalaiseen keisarikuntaan, mutta sitä hallitsivat käytännössä omat piispat. Milano sai sen hallintaansa 1346, mutta italialaissodat|italialaissodissa se siirtyi Ranskalle 1500–1521, lukuun ottamatta vuosia 1512–1515 jolloin se oli Kirkkovaltion, jolle se jäi lopulta vuosiksi 1521–1545.

Paavi Paavali III (1534–1549) antoi Parman ja Piacenzan herttuakunnaksi aviottomalle pojalleen Pier Luigi Farneselle. Hänen jälkeläisensä hallitsivat kaupunkia 1545–1731. Suvun sammuttua Parman ja Piacenzan herttuakunta annettiin Bourbon-suku|Bourbon-suvulle, ja se oli erillinen Italian yhdistymiseen 1860 saakka.

Parmassa sijaitsee Teatro Regio, kuuluisa oopperateatteri.

Kaupunki on kuuluisa Parmigiano Reggiano -juustostaan ja parmankinkku|parmankinkusta. Se on antanut myös nimensä elintarvikejätti Parmalatille.
