Mantova: Guide
Mantova on noin 48 000 asukkaan kaupunki Lombardiassa, Italiassa. Kaupunki perustettiin todennäköisesti noin 2000 eaa. Mincio-joen varrelle. 600-luvulla eaa. paikalla oli etruskilainen kylä, ja kaupungin nimi periytyykin eräästä etruskien jumalasta (Mantus).
Keskiajalla kaupunkia hallitsivat useat Italian kuttuurille erittäin tärkeät perheet, kuten Bonacolsit ja Corradi di Gonzagat (myös nimellä Gonzaga; 1328-1708). Gonzagat suojelivat taidetta ja kulttuuria sekä useita kuuluisia taiteilijoita (Leone Battista Alberti, Andrea Mantegna, Donatello, Luca Fancelli, ja Nicolò Sebregondi). Mantovassa on yhä paljon taiteen ja arkkitehtuurin aarteita eri aikakausilta: Duomo, Palazzo Ducale, Magna Domus, Palazzo del Capitano, Palazzo Vescovile, Palazzo degli Uberti, Palazzo Castiglioni (tai Palazzo Bonacolsi), Gabbian torni ja Palazzo del Podestà. Kaikkein tärkein nähtävyys kaupungissa on varmasti kuitenkin Palazzo del Te (1525-1535), Giulio Romanon luomus.
