Catania: Guide
Catania on samannimisen hallintoalueen pääkaupunki Sisiliassa Italiassa, Etnasta n. 35 km etelä-kaakkoon. Asukkaita Cataniassa on 342 300 (1997), mikä tekee siitä Sisilian toiseksi suurimman kaupungin. Cataniassa on merkittävä satama, josta viedään hedelmiä, ja kaupungissa on monipuolista teollisuutta. Kaupungin yliopisto perustettiin jo 1444 ja komea katedraali 1000-luvulla. Kreikkalaiset perustivat kaupungin 729 eaa. Catania on kärsinyt usein tulivuorenpurkauksista ja maanjäristyksistä.
