Vitoria-Gasteiz: Guide
Vitoria-Gasteiz (, ) on Álavan Espanjan maakunnat|maakunnan ja Baskimaa (itsehallintoalue)|Baskimaan Espanjan itsehallintoalueet|itsehallintoalueen pääkaupunki Pohjois-Espanjassa. Kaupungin väkiluku vuonna 2005 oli 226 490, ja se on väkiluvultaan itsehallintoalueen toiseksi suurin kaupunki.
Vitorian perusti 1181 Navarran kuningas Sancho VI vanhan asutuksen paikalle ja linnoitti sen. Vuonna 1200 se päätyi Kastilialle Alfonso VIII:n valloittamana. Vuonna 1431 se sai kaupunkioikeudet Kastilian Juhana II (Kastilia)|Juhana II:lta. Espanjan itsenäisyyssota|Espanjan itsenäisyyssodassa käytiin 21. kesäkuuta 1813 Vitorian taistelu, jossa Wellingtonin herttua Arthur Wellesley löi ranskalaiset perin pohjin. Kaupungin torilla on tämän muistoksi muistomerkki Monumento a la Independencia.
Vanhakaupunki on hyvin säilynyt ja siellä on merkittäviä rakennuksia: Casa del Cordon, goottilainen Pyhän Marian katedraali, arkeologinen museo ja Torre de Doña Otxanda, jossa sijaitsee luonnontieteellinen museo.
