Sevilla: Guide
Sevilla on eteläisen Espanjan kulttuurin, taiteen ja liike-elämän keskus Guadalquivir-joen rannalla. Sevilla on Andalusia|Andalusian itsehallintoalueen ja Sevilla (maakunta)|Sevillan maakunnan pääkaupunki. Sen asukasluku on 709 975 (2003), koko kaupunkialueella asuu 1,3 miljoonaa ihmistä (neljänneksi eniten Espanjassa).
Historiaa

Legendan mukaan kreikkalainen sankari Herakles (Herkules) perusti kaupungin, mutta historioitsijoiden mukaan Sevilla syntyi 700-800 -luvuilla eaa. Myöhemmin sitä asuttivat foinikialaiset ja karthagolaiset, jotka tuhosivat sen 216 eaa.
213 eaa Scipio Africanus perusti lähistölle Italican kaupungin ja alkoi rakentaa Hispalista. Maurien kausi Espanjassa (711—1492) näkyy yhä Sevillan katukuvassa. Vuonna 1992 Sevilla isännöi Expo 92 -maailmannäyttelyä.
Urheilu
Kaupungissa on kaksi menestynyttä jalkapallojoukkuetta, Sevilla FC ja Real Betis Balompié.
Vuonna 1999 Sevillassa järjestettiin yleisurheilun maailmanmestaruuskilpailut 1999|yleisurheilun maailmanmestaruuskilpailut.
