Salamanca: Guide
Salamanca on Salamanca (maakunta)|Salamancan maakunnan pääkaupunki Kastilia ja Leónissa, Espanjassa. Sen asukasluku on 160 331 (2005). Salamanca sijaitsee Tormensjoen varrella 778 m merenpinnasta.
Salamancan ryösti jo Teresa Ávilalainen perusti karmeliittaluostarin 1570. Vuoden 1812 Salamancan taistelu oli vakava tappio ranskalaisille ja Salamancalle, jonka länsipuoli tuhoutui pahasti.
Merkittäviin nähtävyyksiin kuuluvat romaaninen katedraali, aloitettu noin 1140 ja uusi katedraali, jonka rakennus aloitettiin 1513 ja päättyi 1700-luvulla, yliopiston päärakennus 1415–1433, Plaza Mayor (1729–1733) Alberto Churrigueran suunnittelemana.
Salamanca liitettiin vuonna 1998 UNESCOn maailmanperintöluetteloon ja se oli Euroopan vuoden 2002 kulttuuripääkaupunki Bruggen kanssa.
