León on kaupunki Espanja|Luoteis-Espanjassa, Kastilia ja Leónin itsehallintoalueessa Leónin maakunnassa. Kaupungissa on 135 794 asukasta (2002), neljännes maakunnan väestöstä ja se on siten maakunnan suurin kaupunki.
Leónin maamerkkejä ovat goottilainen katedraali, Real Colegiata de San Isidoro ja Casa de Botines, joka on yksi arkkitehti Antoni Gaudín varhaisimpia töitä.
Historia
León perustettiin vuonna 68 Rooman valtakunta|roomalaisen Legion VII Geminan tukikohdaksi. Kaupungin nimi tulee latinan legioonaa merkitsevästä sanasta.
Gootit|Visigoottikuningas Leovigild valloitti kaupungin 500-luvulla ja muslimit vuonna 712. Vuonna 856 kuningas Ordoño I asutti kaupungin uudelleen ja Ordoño II teki siitä Leónin kuningaskunta|Leónin kuningaskunnan pääkaupungin 914. Al-Mansur Ibn Abi Aamir ryösti kaupungin vuonna 987, mutta kuningas Alfonso V rakensi sen uudelleen.
León oli pysähdyspaikka pyhiinvaeltajille matkalla Santiago de Compostelaan. 1500-luvulta lähtien kaupungin tärkeys alkoi vähentyä.
Espanjan sisällissota|Espanjan sisällissodassa León liittyi kesäkuussa 1936 taisteluun tasavaltalaisia vastaan.
1980-luvulta lähtien León on ollut leonilaisen nationalismin polttopiste, kansallismieliset ovat pyrkineet eroamaan Kastilia ja Leónista ja luomaan oman autonomisen alueen, jopa oman valtion, joka muodostettaisiin Leónin, Salamancan ja Zamoran maakunnista.
