Almería on Espanjan saman nimisen Almería (maakunta)|maakunnan pääkaupunki. Se sijaitsee Välimeri|Välimeren rannalla Kaakkois-Espanjassa, Andalusian itsehallintoalueella. Kaupungissa on 176 338 asukasta (2003) ja maakunnassa 604 903.
Historiaa
Almería on saanut nimensä Al-Merayan linnoituksesta. Kaupungin perusti Abd-Al Rahman III vuonna 955 valtakuntansa satamakaupungiksi. Kaupunki kärsi monista piirityksistä ristiretkien aikaan, mutta kristityt saivat sen hallintaansa vasta sen antauduttuaan Ferdinand Katolilainen|Ferdinand ja Isabella Katolilainen|Isabella Katolilaiselle 26. joulukuuta 1489.
1500-luku|1500-luvulla Almería kärsi monista luonnonkatastrofeista, joista erityisesti vuoden 1522 maanjäristys tuhosi kaupunkia. Lisäksi Berberit|berberimerirosvojen hyökkäykset olivat yleisiä ja jatkuivat 1700-luku|1700-luvun alkuun asti. Tämän jälkeen alueelta löytyi rikkaita rautaesiintymiä ja ranskalaiset sekä brittiläiset yhtiöt asettuivat kaupunkiin.
1950-luku|1950-luvulla alkoi uusi taloudellinen nousu turismin ja maatalous|maatalouden ansiosta. Kaupungissa on elintarviketeollisuuden lisäksi metalli- ja kemianteollisuutta.
