Eindhoven: Guide
Eindhoven on kaupunki alankomaat|Alankomaissa, Pohjois-Brabantin maakunnassa. Alun perin kaupunki on sijainnut Dommel- ja Gender-jokien yhtymäkohdassa, mutta nykyään enää Dommel virtaa kaupungin läpi.
Historia
Brabantin Herttua Hendrik I myönsi Eindhovenille kaupunkioikeudet vuonna 1232. Kaupungissa oli tuolloin noin 170 rakennusta, ja kaupunginmuurin ulkopuolella seisoi pieni linna. Yksi kaupungin perustamiseen vaikuttanut tekijä oli sen sijainti Liègestä Hollantiin johtavalla kauppareitillä.
Eindhovenista tuli Alankomaiden osa vuonna 1629. Kaupungin kasvu lähti vauhtiin vasta teollisen vallankumouksen myötä 1800-luvulla, ja nykyään kaupunki on Alankomaiden viidenneksi suurin 209 092 asukkaallaan (1.7.2006). Toisen maailmansodan pommitukset tuhosivat suuria osia kaupungista.
Teollisuus
Suuryritykset kuten Philips ovat tehneet Eindhovenista tärkeän teollisuuden ja teknologian keskuksen Alankomaissa. Vuonna 2005 kaupungissa käytettiin kolmannes maan tutkimukseen suunnatuista rahoista.
Eindhoven on tärkeä rautateiden solmukohta.
Urheilu
Eindhovenissa toimii Philipsin työntekijöiden perustama jalkapalloseura PSV Eindhoven, joka pelaa Alankomaiden pääsarjassa.
